As a new mom, and a stay at home mom at the moment, I have learned to keep myself busy and get out of the post birth funk. I am sure some of you can understand that. It is so hard to get back that feel-good glow. I have struggled. I have not been able to lose the weight, because lets be honest I have been lazy and making up excuses. So I have decided to promise myself to do more every day, every week, get out and to the gym, clean the house more, focus on my son, my husband, school, myself, and life.
So as of late, I have been making my son baby food at home after my mother-in-law purchased me a Baby Nutribullet that came with everything I needed to start the journey. My little man has loved everything so far, especially relating to fruit-based baby food. His favorite is blueberry banana, which was odd to me considering we have tried so many others.
Also, lets be honest, commercial baby food is expensive, and many parents have concern about the quality of ingredients in the jar. Growing or buying your own food saves money and in addition, homemade baby food provides convenience, flexibility and more choices. You can start to allow your little one to join in on family dinners by pureeing what you are eating, within reason. Plus, have you ever seen purred cantaloupe, cauliflower, broccoli, or asparagus in the store? Continually, your baby gets better quality of food and the taste is normally better than commercial baby food.
Here are 4 of our favorite fruit-based baby foods that I have made for him that he has absolutely loved.

Blueberry Oat Delight

♥ Labels if your jars do not have labels
First you will want to get 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1/2 cup of banana diced, and , place blueberries in a strainer and rinse thoroughly.
After you have rinsed and chopped fruits, you will pour them in your Nutibullet (or preferred blender), add 2 TBSP of plain yogurt, 2 TBSP baby cereal (can add more depending on how thick you would like it to be), and add 1 TBSP breastmilk (continue to add a TBSP for thinner consistency). Blend these until you are satisfied with the consistency.
Once ready, pour into your Nutibullet jars (or preferred jars), seal cap, turn date on cap to current day (or label), and place in the fridge until ready for use. These will last up to 7 days in the fridge.

Remember there can be some disadvantages to making your own baby food versus buying it in a store. Preparing homemade baby food takes time, and buying organic produce whether frozen or fresh may not save quite as much money as you’d like. Storing homemade baby food requires freezer or refrigerator space and it spoils faster than food you buy in a jar which can be an issue. There are also some rare safety concerns in the form of nitrates and botulism that can become something to worry with. However, this is rare safety concerns. Just be sure you read up on safety and such before you start making baby foods that your child has not tried yet.
Hope you enjoyed reading, learning about, and making these quick and easy fruit-based baby foods. Stay tuned for more amazing and easy baby food recipes to come. Next blog will be veggie-based.
